Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)

Tapping

Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is also known as tapping. It is a mixture of ancient Chinese medicine and psychology. The body has energy running through it. It flows through meridians; you can imagine them like rivers flowing through the body. EFT taps on the end of these meridians, thereby stimulating the energy flow.

The tapping relaxes the amygdala (where our fight or flight is stored, ready for when it is needed). With the amygdala relaxed, we can cover topics that normally cause our body to react in fear. As we tap and talk, we are multitasking. This allows the brain to take in and process information subconsciously, relaxing the amygdala and making sure that we can cover stressful topics more calmly. With the amygdala more relaxed, our bodies are more relaxed, and this allows our sympathetic system to relax.

The parasympathetic system regulates rest and bodily functions when the sympathetic system (our fight or flight system) is working; the parasympathetic system is unable to. When the parasympathetic system is working, it allows our body to function better. So, our immune system, digestive system, and so much more work more efficiently.

You can use EFT to help you work through pain and through emotional issues. It is a great way to stop and gather yourself so that you can continue with your day.
